Plant-based doesn’t mean “meat free” and it certainly doesn’t have to be boring.
While there are several benefits to being on one diet completely, it can be stressful to follow a rigid plan and still get all the nutrients needed. My recipes are a happy plant-based blend of vegan and paleo (closest to the pegan diet) with a goal to combat inflammation and estrogen dominance.
Here you’ll find a mix of vegan and paleo recipes to support your preference and goals for healthy eating. I also include several egg free and nut free options for those with additional sensitivities to enjoy.
CLEAN HEALTHY EATING
What you won’t find in any of my recipes:
Hi, I’m Heather! Recipe creator, home chef, and health nut.
I’ve always enjoyed cooking and for years had taken a healthy-ish approach to food — mostly organic, dairy free, and gluten free. I didn’t really fit into one “diet” label, but considered myself closest to paleo. I ate a lot of steak, pork, poultry, shellfish, and dairy-free products (which are notorious for bad oils). Other than avoiding high fructose corn syrup, I didn’t pay much attention to added sugar. I was sure to have some vegetables for lunch/dinner and loved a good salad.
Overall I thought I was doing OK with the healthy eating thing … I felt good. My jeans from 10 years ago still fit. But, I wasn’t aware of how certain foods I still ate affected hormones, especially estrogen.
Years of infertility, anxiety, uterine fibroids, and ultimately a breast cancer diagnosis at 39 lead me to learn that I was estrogen dominant. After many hours (+ many internet rabbit holes) I learned that several of the foods I was eating are proven to increase estrogen, making my conditions worse.
After my breast cancer diagnosis I took my obsession with healthy food to the next level by using it as medicine.*
I embraced the power of plant foods for estrogen reduction, anti-inflammation, and to ultimately starve cancer. I went from closer to paleo, to more like pegan, and almost vegan.
Bad oils, refined sugars, most grains, most meats were eliminated (along with any personal care items containing endocrine disruptors). In doing so I felt so much more vibrant overall. My skin glowed. My energy lasted longer. I slept better and stressed less. I healed much faster than expected from my bilateral mastectomy and felt radiant during radiation.
Food looks different to me now, and truly enjoy reinventing and creating healthy and delicious recipes that can impact overall health. I’m excited for you to try my recipes and eat your way to a vibrant new you. Enjoy!
