Rich and decadent chocolate paired with sweet tart cherry and blackberry for a flavor explosion… with no refined sugars, dairy, or nuts.

What I love about making ice cream at home is that you know exactly what goes into it. And this ice cream, is healthy enough to eat for breakfast.

With the dark berries in this recipe, you are getting plenty of antioxidants from the anthocyanins (natural color pigment found in dark red, blue, and black fruits/veggies) which have anti-inflammation and anti-cancer properties. As fresh and frozen berries the pigment and benefits are retained the most.

Cacao powder (a less processed cocoa) also provides anti-inflammation benefits with antioxidants and minerals.

We’re also adding in my favorite protein powder here as well from Truvani. There are plenty of protein powder choices available, but if you look at the ingredients a lot of them contain a ton of ingredients, including sunflower oil which is a no-no for breast cancer and it’s high omega-6 fatty acid can trigger inflammation.

What I love about Truvani is that there are minimal high quality ingredients with only monk fruit used to add some sweetness in the chocolate flavor. They also have an unsweetened unflavored powder I use in other recipes as well.

Finally, to top things off I like to mix in a few date sweetened chocolate chips from Just Date Dark Chocolate Chips, and fresh blackberries for a little bonus burst of fruit and chocolate. Yum!

Special Tools Needed:

Ninja Creami Ice Cream Maker — This was hands down the best purchase of 2023. If you don’t have or want to get a Creami machine, you can still enjoy this recipe using a blender. Simply blend the ingredients, hand mix in any desired mix-ins, and transfer to freezer safe dish. Freeze for about an hour and enjoy!
