Turkey meatballs are one of my favorite versatile meat dishes. They can be dinner, lunch, appetizers, snacks, even breakfast.
Especially when you find organic turkey on sale you can make up a batch (or two) a head of time, and freeze them for a quick weeknight meal. I also like to make these the same time as my turkey meatloaf (which I bake for dinner the next night) since they are basically the same ingredients.
For this recipe, we’re going full paleo with grain free awesomeness using flaxseeds to give these a more bready texture.
I have made these with cooked brown rice instead of flaxseeds and they are equally as moist and delicious. If you eat grains and don’t have flaxseeds you can use that instead.
To cook, we are simply baking these from start to finish. You can alternatively pre-cook the meatballs in a pan on the stove top and finish in the oven, but that’s an extra step and pan to wash. If you are in a hurry this can cut down on the baking time, just keep the stove temp on the lower end since high heat can burn these and introduce carcinogens.

Mixing Bowl
9″ Round Glass Baking Dish or Pie Plate – rectangle or square works too!
Turkey Mushroom Meatballs with Garlic + Flaxseed
- Total Time: 35 mins
- Yield: 10 meatballs, approx 2"
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground organic turkey 85% lean
- 1/4 cup finely chopped yellow organic onion
- 1/2 cup finely chopped organic mushrooms (white button, crimini, or shiitake)
- 2 tbsp ground organic flaxseeds
- 1 egg
- 3 – 4 cloves minced organic garlic
- 2 tsp dried organic oregano
- 1/4 tsp Himalayan Pink Salt, to taste
- 1/4 tsp black pepper, to taste
- 1 tsp extra virgin olive oil for baking dish
Instructions
Preheat oven to 375F.
Drizzle about 1 tsp olive oil into the bottom of a round baking dish, set aside.
Add all remaining ingredients to a mixing bowl and mix by hand until thoroughly combined. I like to wear gloves to do this so nothing gets under my nails.
Separate meat into small clumps and roll into balls about 2.5″ in diameter.
Set meatballs in baking dish. A 9″ round glass dish works well for this recipe which yields about 10 meatballs.
Bake at 375F for 25 – 30 mins until meatballs reach 175F in the center.
Remove from oven and let rest for about 5 mins before serving.
